Clay Valstad, Vice President, Customer Service, GENCO

Clay Valstad, with nearly four decades of retail experience, has supported GENCO reverse logistics solutions for several major retail customers, including Best Buy, Target, Sears, Kmart, and CSK Automotive. Since 2007 he has served as customer service vice president for GENCO Supply Chain Solutions; in this capacity, Mr. Valstad collaborates with customers to improve their central return center processes and productivity. He also served as a consultant for Kohl’s, for which he helped to improve the company’s store backroom return process, recommended accounting and audit changes for better managing central returns, and developed processes for reconciling inventory.

Mr. Valstad also was a consultant to Dell in the United States and Canada, where he helped to establish the company’s retail business and educated Dell on retailers’ expectations regarding contractual returns policies.

Before coming to GENCO, Mr. Valstad spent 31 years as vice president—reverse logistics and specialty distribution for Sears Holdings Corp. During this period Mr. Valstad managed central return centers; worked with buyers and vendors; and worked with finance, accounting, audit, loss prevention, IT, transportation, and senior management to turn reverse logistics from a cost center to a profit center.

Mr. Valstad has a bachelor of science degree from San Diego State University.
