Ryan started his career at Distribution Video & Audio during summer breaks from school. Upon finishing school, he moved to Florida to work full-time at DV&A in sales. After learning the basics, he was promoted to Buyer, and soon after to VP of Purchasing. Ryan’s unique blend of creative and operational strengths as well as his exceptional skills in sales, aided him in excelling within DV&A. In fact the Closeout Division of DV&A was created in part, due to Ryan’s creative thinking and sales vision. Ryan saw there was a need in the entertainment industry for a solution to excess inventory and that he could, in turn, help retailers with their inventory needs. He also saw retailers that wanted top movies, but did not want to pay the high prices. With the creation of the Closeout Division, Ryan was able to create a niche industry that specialized in buying these excess inventories and then reselling them to retailers, at a fraction of the cost. Since creating the Closeout Division, Ryan has helped DV&A to become one of the largest closeout video buyers, selling to both large and small retailers across the United States.
In 1998, Ryan brought the Closeout Division to Los Angeles and opened an office to specifically serve those clients. He has developed relationships with the who’s who of the industry, both large and small. DV&A sells product to most of the dollar discount chains, major video chains, mass merchants, etc. DV&A specializes in entertainment-related categories such as: DVDs, CD music, books, videogames, toys, and consumer products. DV&A sells over 20,000,000 DVDs and audio CDs on an annual basis, generating $25 million in annual sales.
Ryan is currently co-authoring a book with well known, best-selling author, Eric Sherman, which details the Home Video Business and is intended to give the reader the benefit of Ryan’s vast experience and knowledge of this industry.
Ryan is also in development on a broadband, video-on-demand website, specializing in film shorts.
